GirlTrek
Community Initiative (Walking Movement, founded 2010)
A nonprofit that empowers Black women to reclaim their health through daily walking, drawing inspiration from Black history and collective healing. GirlTrek frames exercise as a healing ritual and community act rather than a solo grind. Women walk and talk together in “stress protest” hikes and even retrace ancestral journeys (like Harriet Tubman’s route to freedom), turning movement into a warm, culturally rooted source of strength and social connection.
