Eating from Our Roots
Book (Cookbook) by Maya Feller, RD (2023)
A celebration of global heritage recipes by a registered dietitian, featuring 80+ healthy, home-style dishes from African, Caribbean, Asian, Latin American, and Mediterranean traditions. Rather than viewing cultural comfort foods as “unhealthy,” this cookbook embraces them, showing how traditional ingredients (spice-rich vegetables, grains, stews, etc.) are both delicious and aligned with modern nutrition guidelines. The tone is approachable and joyful – Feller calls it a “love letter” to nourishing heritage dishes, which invites depleted readers to find comfort and connection in cooking again, not just count calories. (Plus, it implicitly honours the Black diaspora through African and Caribbean cuisines.) Feller’s homepage is here.
